Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme
(FIM)
The Fédération Internationale de
Motocyclisme (International Motorcycling Federation) is the
governing body of motorcycle sport worldwide. It was
founded on December 21, 1904, in the rooms of the
restaurant Ledoyen in Paris, under the name of Fédération
Internationale des Clubs Motocyclistes. Its remit is to to
control and develop the sporting and touring aspects of
motorcycling and to assist motorcycle users in those
fields.
Motorcycling sport is run, at FIM World Championships and
Prizes level, in five different disciplines.
Road
Racing, which
include Grand Prix, Superbike, Supersport, Sidecar and
Endurance: Motocross (with three solo classes and the sidecar,
the Motocross of Nations (competition with National teams),
Supercross, SuperMoto, Snowcross; the Trial, with Individual Trial, Indoor Trial,
Trial des Nations, with competitions for men and for
women; Enduro, with the Individual Two Days’ World
championship and the International Six Days – run since
1913, the oldest competition held under the aegis o the FIM
– and the Cross-Country Rallies, and finally
Track
Racing, with
Individual Speedway Grand Prix, the Speedway World Cup
(team), Junior Speedway, Long Track and Ice Racing
(individual and Team). All this represents a total of 34
FIM World Championships and Prizes.

Auto-Cycle
Union (ACU)

The Auto-Cycle Union is
the internationally recognised governing body for
motorcycle sport in the British Isles (excluding Ireland).
It was founded in 1903 as the Auto - Cycle Club with the
aim of developing motorsport through clubs and arranging
touring facilities for individual members. It was renamed
the Auto-Cycle Union in 1907 and then more recently "ACU
Motorcycling GB". It is recognised by the Federation
Internationale de Motorcyclisme ( FIM ). and the ACU was a
founder member of this body in 1904.
The role of the ACU Motorcycling GB in British motorcycle
includes:
• It sets the
rules for the various aspects of the sport.
• It ensures fair play. It trains stewards, marshals and
observers to ensure track safety.
• It sets, checks and revises safety standards.
• It retains a body of medical advisors. (the ACU Medical
Panel)
• It tracks the progess of national championships and
contributes to the wider world of motorcycling that makes
international competition happen.

and is chaired jointly by Dr David Stevens MBE and Mr Roy

Motorcycle Racing
Control Board (MCRCB)
The ACU is the controlling
body for motorcycle sport in the British Isles. However the
the MCRCB was formed in 1995 to organise domestic
championships. The ACU has delegated control of National
level championships and the running of International FIM
Championship events to the MCRCB which operates in conjunction with the
Association of Motor Racing Circuit Owners (AMRCO).

The MCRCB has its own medical panel. The chief medical
